DIY outside bench

Ever wanted something just a bit quirky for your house? Consider an upcycle.

Materials:
3 old chairs
20 screws ( long enough to go through the base of the chair and into your wood planks)
Drill
3 timber planks (that are the length of the bench)
Undercoat paint
Heavy duty outside paint (your choice in colour)
Paint brush
Sandpaper
Sanding block

My husband and I have just moved into a new house with a front porch. I have been dying to get a chair out there for me to sit on whilst my Bub bounces away and looks at the leaves and cars driving by.

Whist Pintresting I found this awesome idea and thought, "Challenge accepted!"

So first of all I had to find chairs... My budget was $20. My first point of call was gumtree. Gosh I love this website. I spent a good time refining my search and found these beauties!! To make it even better, they were free!

Now to figure out what we're we're going to do to make the bench...
We placed all three next to one another and decided planks would do the trick. After measuring up our chairs, we picked up some wood, paint and screws at my husband's heaven on Earth, Bunnings.

I got the husband to chop the wood to size - he even curved the wood for the base of the chair! Man, he has skills! As he did this I started on the undercoat... those legs are more annoying than what I thought they'd be...
Next came the colour! We decided since it was quirky, and I love the quirk, we'd go bright blue!

One coat on, 2 hours later, two coats on and DING, done!
Now for the assembling!
We put the planks on one by one and screwed the in from the bottom.  45mins later and 20 screws later we had a bench!

Last but not least, we wanted it to look old and used, that way when the kids bump it, or something hits it, it will blend into a well loved bench. So my husband whipped out his sanding blocks and sand paper and we just did light sanding everywhere. In some parts we sanded a bit harder to see the wood... But that's your choice.

And voila! You have a cutesy bench for your house.

If we had a garden out the back I'd so put it there as it has that vibe. But for now, it's home is the porch and will be well loved as Bub, the Husband and I will sit outside watching the wonderful world around us!

I hope this gave you the motivation you need to get up and do it!
